Actually it might be correct that the constraint on Base#i is validated when validating a Sub instance. The two i fields are independent and thus the constraints and thus it seems reasonable to validate them against the corresponding field values.
The constraints defined on the hidden supertype field shouldn't be considered probably though for validator.validateProperty(sub, "i") or when retrieving the constraint metadata from Sub.
