<li>First is we need a place to test our code changes, see if the app breaks, play with it, debug it, verify it works with the backend, etc. It doesn't have to be stylish and it doesn't have to be performant or user friendly, because all we want is to run a piece of SDK and verify that it does what is expected. We don't need it to be production ready, we don't need it to be shared or shown to anyone outside the project and we don't care if it breaks or it needs some hacks to work properly.</li>
<li>Second is we need a very nice app that showcases in a very stylish and user-friendly way what AeroGear services are capable of. An app that anyone in the outside world that runs into AeroGear can install in their device and try it. It has to be pretty and work flawlessly, be stable and essentially be what any potential user would expect from their own app. The main reason to have it separately from the</li>
</ul> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0"><b>SDK development app</b></p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">This app is inside the repo and it depends only on development, local SDKs. This is the only way to provide a quick and easy (and flexible) development environment and there is no need for maintenance, since it's always in a development state and it doesn't have to be stable. Using the showcase app (external to the repo) is proven to be problematic, it needs always some hack and there is a risk of pushing breaking changes because of different local environments.</p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0"><b>Showcase app</b></p> <p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">This other app is quite the opposite. It implements the latests changes of the SDKs and it has to be ready for production, there is no room for the word "development" or "local" here. In this app the design is utterly important, it has to look good and it has to work flawlessly. The dependencies has to point to the ones published and the app looks as much as possible like a real production app. Having a single app for dev and showcase means everybody contributing to the app, small PRs for every change in the SDK, some people caring more than others, and in the end it results in a decrease of quality and in both developer and user experience. I think this app should be updated less often, only when SDKs are published (meaning changes are final) and specially more carefully.</p> </td>
