[forge-dev] Git tools addition

Thomas,

Feel free to extract whatever you need from the project I posted (methods,
docs, etc). I'm not concerned about keeping the project around. I consider
it raw material for the taking. If you pull a method, just add me as
@author and that's sufficient credit :)
