I have only seen this issue occur if the map portlet is placed under the booking portlet. If the page only contains the booking portlet, or if the booking portlet is placed beneath the map portlet, then it works properly. 

The issue occurs when the map portlet handles the booking event. If the portlet.xml file is changed so the map portlet no longer handles the booking event then it works properly.

The issue appears to be occurring in the portlet container. If we do everything except call the action invocation on the pc then the booking portlet still renders properly. If we just call the action invocation and don't do anything with the invocation response (ie not modifying the uiportlet with the result) then the booking portlet renders empty.
