I am seeing the same problem, but it is acting strangely.

Steps to reproduce:
1) use a server built from the latest svn
2) deploy the sample portlets to the deploy directory (and the sample jar to the lib directory)
3) start server
4) login as root
5) auto import portlets
6) create a new page with the cart and catalog portlets
7) access the new page and add an item to the cart

The item will appear twice in the cart when there should only be one added.

But if you log out as root and try to add anything to the cart, it will only add one item.
If you log back in as root and try again it will also only add one item.
