<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">I'm not sure how the 'setRollbackOnly' could be avoided without violating the JPA spec requirement for that to happen when a RuntimeException is thrown by a method of the EntityManager. </p>
<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">From the JPA 2.1 spec section 3.1.1 EntityManager Interface (I'm only pasting a little for this part since its too long):</p>

<p style="margin: 10px 0 0 0">JPA 2.1 spec section 7.9.2 Provider Responsibilities (note the fifth requirement is about this case):</p>
