Step 1) fails with a DC error:

[Host Controller] 14:04:01,577 ERROR [org.jboss.as.controller] (pool-1-thread-19) operation ("deploy") failed - address: ([("deployment" => "mysql-connector-java-5.1.6.jar")]): java.lang.IllegalStateException: No handler for deploy at address [("deployment" => "mysql-connector-java-5.1.6.jar")]

Although it exists as a deployment later on:

[localhost:9999 /]:read-children-names(child-type=deployment)                                                            ){
    "outcome" => "success",
    "result" => [
        "demo-application.war",
        "mysql-connector-java-5.1.6.jar"
    ],
    "compensating-operation" => undefined
}
