I'm going to LGPL my test app and post it on our wiki.  I'll let you know when I'm done.  To get my app to run as the root context, I just created a jboss-web.xml file and removed the ROOT.war as documented here: http://wiki.jboss.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=SetupARootContextApp
