I tried to run latest jboss portal which is 2.6-Beta1 with jboss 4.2 and as expected I see problems with:

a. compability with JSF implementation. I see CNFE for org.apache.myfaces.webapp.StartupServletContextListener which is apache's implementation and this results into failed deployment of portal admin.
b. Problem starting service portal:deployer=Adapter org.jboss.portal.server.deployment.CannotCreatePortletWebAppException: JBossWeb cannot handle it

These errors are similar to what I had seen when I deployed 2.4.1.GA in jboss 4.2.
