Yes, I'm sorry, it was incorrectly configured testcase. In case of using java.lang.String the ejb-jar.xml descriptor is processed correctly.
Then the only point is not descriptive NPE exception when I used incorrect type String. 
Whether you think that it's not real problem, please close the jira.
