  | 1.How is JSF performance in production?

I know that there are now plenty of applications using JSF in production. I'm not aware of any perf numbers or particular high-traffic sites. But I bet there are some out there. I'd love to know a better answer to this one too!

You MUST take a look at JBoss Seam. It does a better job with this stuff than any web framework ever. See http://www.jboss.com/products/seam

You don't actually need the annotations to generate JSF config for you. In Seam, you just use the annotations. There is also annotation support for resource injection of managed beans in JBoss 5. See http://wiki.jboss.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=JBossWithJSFCDDL
