I figured out a way to this. The following url works for cvsgrab to checkut a branch from CVS
sh /apps/cvsgrab-2.2.2/cvsgrab.sh -url http://viewcvs.forge.jboss.com/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/jboss-common/src/?only_with_tag=JBossMC_1_0_2  -destDir .

That would checkout the JBossMC_1_0_2 branch from jboss-common
