Look at how portal urls are created, and then tell them to do the same formatting. Sample:

http://domain.com/auth/index.html?ctrl:cmd=render&ctrl:windowstate=maximized&ctrl:window=default.Home.UserPortletWindow¶m=blah&foo=bar

Its hackish, but it'll work.
