I had tested 2.6 beta1 with mysql8 and dont remember seeing any problem. Are you using the DB instance from older portal installation? If you have not tried that already, I would suggest dropping the database and recreating it again and see if that solves the problem. Also don't forget to clean up server/default/data folder as well.
