You can try checking out the AS 4.2 code at http://anonsvn.jboss.org/repos/jbossas/branches/Branch_4_2/ and building the AS (go into build dir and execute build.bat or build.sh.)  Under build/output a JBoss distribution with recent EJB3 code will be built.  You'd then have to figure out how to integrate the ejb3 stuff in deploy into 4.0.5.

Hmm...before going that far...

Go to http://repository.jboss.com/jboss/cache/1.4.1.snapshot/lib/[/url] and get the jboss-cache-jdk50.jar there.  That's close to what JBC 1.4.1.SP1 will be.  Try deleting jboss-cache.jar for server/all/lib and copying in that jar.  *Maybe* that will fix your problem.
