[jboss-user] [JBoss Portal] - Extending the org.jboss.portal.identity.User class and jbp_u

I would like to add a new column to jbp_users table and extend the org.jboss.portal.identity.User class to read this column. Is this doable? recommended? 

I have some attributes that do not necessarily belong in the jbp_user_props table
