You can put a servlet in the war file of your web application and  create a link by doing :

ExternalContext ctx = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext();
String s = ctx.getRequestContextPath() + "/mydownloadservlet";
String url = ctx.encodeResourceURL(s);

Then use the URL in your application.
