IMHO you should check the headers of your pages:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

  |     "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">

  | 	xmlns:h="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html"
  | 	xmlns:f="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core"

  | 	xmlns:s="http://jboss.com/products/seam/taglib"
  | ....
  | 

I also use the firefox plugin "webdeveloper" to check server response:
configured language, encoding, content-type, compression..
