Seam 1.1.0 is very old now.  You should use 1.2.1.GA or perhaps even start with the 1.3 series.  If you are using 1.2.1.GA I would suggest you use JBoss 4.0.5.GA, and AS 4.2.0.GA with Seam 1.3.
