Ok,
the solution is simple if known.

Using the jboss packages is the wrong approach,
using hibernate jpa/ejb3 demo from http://www.hibernate.org/
works out-of-the-box.

Download the Hibernate Annotations and EntityManager "Hello World" package from
http://hibernate.org/152.html

This works 'standalone' (J2SE) and is simple enough to run
quickly,
