Your problem looks similar to the one I had, see

The jar provided in the Jira doesn't work as such (see BPEL-250). 

You probably need only the org.jbpm.bpel.db.type.ElementType from the jar in BPEL-230, and then add length attribute to the related .hbm.xml files as described in BPEL-230.
