I can tell you that Remoting has a facility for downloading classes from the server to the client in the course of deserializing an invocation response.  See the discussion of the "loaderport" parameter in Section "5.5. Marshalling" in the Remoting Guide (http://labs.jboss.com/jbossremoting/docs/guide/index.html).

I should add that I don't know if anyone has used this facility with EJBs.
