[jboss-user] [JBoss Messaging] - Message persistence

Hi,
Just want to know one basic thing regarding Jboss messaging.
What i have observed is, when  I stop jboss and restart application server. I start getting old messages. 
I am not using any db-persistence.
Just want to know where these messages are perisisted. I was assuming that it uses in memory hsql-db, Does it store it on somewhere file system ?

I am using JAS -4.2.3 and JBM 1.4.0SP3
