The "default", "all" and "minimal" are shipped by JBoss by default. However, the end user can just rename them as they please.

A similar approach to look for specific files. For ex: the cluster configuration will have a cluster-service.xml file in the deploy folder of the server. This can give you an idea (though not a perfect solution) whether the existing installation has enabled the cluster service.
