Check the JAVA_HOME environment variable
echo $JAVA_HOME
It should be set in the directory where you installed Sun JDK.
Try the following:
export JAVA_HOME=<SUN_JDK_BASE_DIR>
eclipse

where <SUN_JDK_BASE_DIR> is the directory in which you installed Sun JDK.
