But you said nothing has port 1099 open. If you did not change anything, then JBoss AS would have that port open.
Also, when running netstat, use '-an', otherwise not all ports show up as numbers, in which case you could miss port 1099. Try running this (with JBoss AS up):
netstat -abn | grep "java"
That should show all ports open by JBoss AS.
