I don't see wrong things here. 

Is there a difference beetween "appointmentBeanInst.appointmentOffers" and "appointmentBeanInst.freeAppointments"?

By the way, I would not advice you to use FetchType.EAGER on both sides of a ManyToMany relation: http://www.jboss.org/community/wiki/EJB3relationships
