Sorry; hard to diagnose a fairly generic problem like that.

I'd recommend using a JavaScript debugging tool (like FireBug for FireFox) to look at the details of the error your receiving. 

Are you using a custom theme? If so, you may want to just include the jQuery libraries in the theme definition.
