Just a theory here...
 
1) Do you have all the required classes on the client classpath? (Simplest is to have the $JBOSS_HOME/clien/jboss-all.jar on the classpath).
 
and
 
2) Are you using JDK 5?
 
See the second entry in the following link; explains that with JDK 5 a ClassNotFoundException can manifest as a StreamCorruptedException.
