1. Yes, using any application server you can distribute where the engine will be executed. Running different instances in different nodes or replicating the same instance in different nodes. The persistence mechanisms can also be used to share the instances between different nodes.
2. Yes, via JMS you can centralize your logging in a single place, using all the features for JMS you can ensure that the logs will be persisted
