jBPM3 and jBPM5 are completely different especially in configuration perspective. Anyway what you are looking is a domain specific service that will insert whatever into data base. Take a look at this  http://docs.jboss.org/jbpm/v5.3/userguide/ch.domain-specific-processes.html section in documentation to get you started with it.
