Yes, I definitely wanted to "delete all Eclipse settings and then re-import.  I definitely did not run "mvn eclipse:eclipse", as I learned that lesson a while back.  Nowadays, I just right-click in Package Explorer and select Import->Maven->"Existing Maven Project" in order for it to find the parent/children POMs and import that way.
