It seems you are using some older version of Designer, probably first I would probably upgrade to latest ( http://blog.athico.com/2012/07/jbpm-designer-230final-released.html http://blog.athico.com/2012/07/jbpm-designer-230final-released.html,  http://sourceforge.net/projects/jbpm/files/designer/designer-2.3/ http://sourceforge.net/projects/jbpm/files/designer/designer-2.3/).

As far as the exception goes, can you help us reproduce by giving more info on what you are doing?
