thanks - Digging a little further, there is an old ticket JBIDE-437 with the same described problem, but it was closed in 2007 as a duplicate to an 'hbx' ticket (but no direct reference, so unsure).

I've opened a new ticket since the JBIDE-437 couldn't be reopened here:   https://issues.jboss.org/browse/JBIDE-15166 https://issues.jboss.org/browse/JBIDE-15166
