I think if you were going that route, you'd clone the repo and import.  If I just wanted to look at a quickstart, I'd be a little upset if importing one also stashed a whole git repo on my hard drive.  If that is an option, that's fine, but if that's the default behavior, I think you're going to end up pissing people off.
