Since we'd have to patch at least three 3rd party features, I agree w/ an overall solution that works for everything and scales up w/o extra work. 

+1 for Transforms. 

As to an upstream bug... I just installed everything in JBoss Central into Eclipse Indigo SR1 JEE and the resulting welcome screen WAS fine, until I closed it and opened the 3rd party welcome screens. After that the default Eclipse one (with egit, dtp, wtp, and other contributions in it) was blank.

So, yes, it's upstream in Eclipse AND in PMD, FindBugs, and JRebel.
