Firstly, we should *never* suggest patching/redistributing features as the first thing to do - that is the *last* option.

Secondly, don't we control the welcome screen setup completely in JBDS at this time ? surely these can be hidden/controlled or is this just as broken in plain eclipse?

Thirdly - this sounds like something that needs reported and fixing in eclipse itself also so a bug would report would be relevant....
