after chat on irc with balunasj and kborcher:

the display:none is there to avoid flickering on startup.

no good solution for this since the editor is actually doing what it is being told (hide the div) and there aren't really a way to "unhide" these since no way to differentiate between a real "hide" and a "just hiding until load have completed" hide.
