Hello Doug, have you checked out our archetypes on JBoss Central? If you go to Eclipse Marketplace and search for "JBoss" then install JBoss Developer Studio (or even Tools), we offer a getting started "dashboard" called JBoss Central with archetypes to lay down the initial project. Also, one of our goals with the quickstarts is to make sure you can import them in the IDE (with JBDS/Tools) and use them as your initial project template.

It might be useful for quickstarts to not only include the working code/project but also include a list of the steps used to produce it. This helps new users to both the development environment and the application start a new project on their own and at least rough it in. What I mean by that are steps like 'Using Eclipse create a dynamic web project, then create the following classes, ...'. You do not need to include every single detail but at least the high level ones (specifically 'create this artifact' type steps) are the most helpful. Ideally, the new user could then do the creates and cut/paste from the provided project into the new one to get a better understanding of it and then build their own projects.
