Yeah, agreed, descriptions should provide more detailed information (and 
in a less terse form). For this particular example, the description 
should also tell the user at what point in time the counting of bytes 
received started, i.e.:

"The number of bytes successfully received since this web application 
was last started"

Heiko, as opposed to defaulting the description field to the 
displayName, I would suggest addressing 
http://jira.rhq-project.org/browse/RHQ-1599 by disabling the tooltip if 
the description is null or just keeping it as is, displaying "no 
description available". And of course, we should add descriptions to all 
metrics that don't have them. After 2.2, we should have a 
plugin-descriptor fix-a-thon and split up the plugins among the team, 
and each dev can go in and add all missing descriptions and any other 
missing metadata (e.g. property types, constraints) to the plugin 
descriptors they were assigned.
