Although just including the ActivityType class in the persistence.xml, as it is referenced from Situation, is ok at runtime - for schema export tools it causes an incorrect version of the RTGOV_ACTIVITIES table definition to be generated. The persistence.xml also needs to include all of the derived classes, as a single table inheritance approach is used.
