RichFaces could have a growl like component for showing messages. This is very usefull when there is a lot of ajax requests going on. Such animated floating message would catch users eye.
First attempts made on RichFaces-3.3.3.Final sandbox involved using two different jQuery plugins : gritter and pnotify. It turns out that pnotify has more features and is easier to style.
