The parser needs to be rewritten, either:

A. rewrite it to use several stages and allow hooks into the AST of an intermediate stage (for rendering anything that is not HTML from the AST)

B. rewrite it and simply call methods for all HTML rendering, subclassing of parser allows overriding of methods and custom output

I can only do B.
