I haven't seen wtp be fast in autodeploy for web apps and havent been able to convince WTP to do it well for seamgen projects...if you have managed that please let me know how so I can see if I missed something ;)

(note: I too want to not be dependent on seamgen specific ant file and project structure so its a goal for JBoss Tools to have this support in eclipse WTP.)
