Nik, it would probably be worth contacting the maintainer of the library and asking them to switch to some slightly easier to use scheme for swapping out the logging.

For example, allow the use of a properties file to specify what class to use to implement logging:

# jxl.properties
logging.class=org.jboss.seam.excel.jxl.SeamJXLLogger
