Nicklas Karlsson commented on JBSEAM-2617:
------------------------------------------

I agree its one of those pesky "user education" issues, and there will always be the noobs who register and drop in for just their really critical question (that can be found in the manual with 99% probability). Some brainstorming solutions (practical or not)

* Change the default editor text to "Click HELP for text formatting instructions. Then edit this text and check the preview. Remember to give credits and mark the thread solved when appropriate"?

* Mail reminder to mark the thread when two weeks has passed since last post?

* Auto-solved after two weeks?

* Force user to take a stance on status of old open thread when posting new ones

* [Insert other obusive popups etc reminding user]

* Only activate the solved feature for users that should be educated (10 or more posts). That leaves the question what to do with the n < 10 posts

* "Solved"-moderators that only have the privilige to mark threads solved

The feature (if working), I think would help to strengthen the community, some sort of "lets see how low we can get the unsolved count". Or then we would just be exlpoited and abused. Aaah, the spirit op open source and free lunches ;-)

>
> Addition of a boolean field "solved" to threads that would be toggleable by the original poster to indicate that a solution has been found.
> Solved threads would have some sort of "!" or other similar icon in thread list. This feature could be used to indicate that help is still (or no longer) required.
> It could also be convinient to be able to use the solved field in searches
