I receive the same error while working through the examples from the book SeamInAction on this entry in the components.xml file.

	<component name="newGolfer" class="org.open18.model.Golfer" scope="event">
		<property name="dateJoined">#{currentDatetime}</property>
	</component>

Adding  private String[] startupDepends;  to the Golfer class fixes the validation but is clearly not the solution.
