The behavior is visible debugging the method javax.faces.component.UIComponentBase#findComponent(String).</p>
<p>Why does UIDecorate implement NamingContainer? Wouldn't everything work without this?</p>
<p>The other possibility to fix this is to modify the <f:ajax> tag using <f:ajax render=":frm:enclosingDiv"/> instead of <f:ajax render="enclosingDiv"/>.</p></div>
