Misunderstanding of the local connection semantics. The Embedded transport by default is not configured with any security domain, so in those situations if you use passthrough auth, since there is no security domain a null subject is assigned at authentication time, however if try to use that connection for anything else, it tries to validate the null subject and assertion errors are thrown.

The solution is either add a security domain to embedded transport or remove the passthrough auth falg on the url.
