Christoph John commented on TEIID-5643:
---------------------------------------

Hello Stefen,
I activated the logger category org.teiid and had a look at the output when doing a select * statement on the large table. It looks like the data are loaded correctly. See attached file. In line
13643 the loading is finished.
However, the log raised some questions regarding potential performance topics I could run into. Maybe you might be able to give me an answer. What I am seeing in the log file is, that always chunks of 512 rows are loaded.

Question 1: Is this due to streaming from the database to the teiid server or are these explicit requests which er send to the mysql database.
Question 2: Are the data reloaded entirely with each select* request or are the data in the cash just populated for the first time?
Question 3: Are there any config options to improve performance here. Maybe by enforcing reuse of cached data. I mean if only one Teiid instance is running and nobody else is accessing the database except via Teiid, Teiid should be able to serve most data from the cache and just push down write requests once the cache was pupulated.
Question 4: regarding chunk size: Is there something I could configure performance wise that larger than 512 rows are transfered?

Question 5a:What I have also interpreted from the log file is, that the org.teiid.BUFFER_MGR starts freeing memory space even so it is still loading rows from the table. Might it be that I am low on memory and might need to increase the amount of memory?
Question 5b: What config options would this be? From Teiid, Wildfly or from the Java runtime?

Question 6: The most important one, how can I procede from here? are there other logger categories I should have a look at? Or can you see something from the logfile which I have not find?

Thanks for your help

> Please note, I am using Teiid 11.2.0 and not 11.2.1 as specified above in this ticket. I was not able to select a version 11.2.0.
> The issue: I tried to query a table with a larger amount of records (about 600.000 records in the table). Teiid responds with
> 504 Gateway Time-out. The server didn't respond in time.
> If Teiid tries to respond with 600.000 entries to such a request, it is reasonable that it runs out of memory or other weird things happen. However, I would expect that in such a case Teiid just answers with a fixed amount of records, say for example 1000, and provides a kind of curser to enable subsequent requests to retrieve more data.
> I am currently trying to find a workaround for the issue, as the issue blocks my work. Is there maybe a kind of configuration option that I have to set explicitly for such a kind of behavior I previously sketched?
> Further note: When I send such a kind of select * request on the table to Teiid, I am also not able for a certain time interval, about a minute, to get a responds to different queries which select a single element on the mentioned table. Such a request then also results in a 504 Gateway Time-out.
